History of the school
Regina Caeli Girls High School (Formerly Karinga girls Gatundu) is in Karinga sub-location, Ndarugu Location, Gatundu Division, Gatundu South Sub County in Kiambu County. The school started as an intermediate school in the 1950s. In 1968, it was converted into a Girls’ only secondary school. After experiencing teething problems, the Catholic Church invited the first five Sisters who took over the running of the school. The initial years were difficult as there were no boarding facilities apart from one temporary hostel which could only accommodate a third of the students.
The rest were day scholars. Those who resided within the school made their own meals and fetched water from the river. Despite the hardships, they still performed reasonably well in National Examinations. This laid the foundation for the name and tradition of the school as a performing District school.
The school is registered as a secondary school, three streamed and offering the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development approved curriculum for secondary education in Kenya. It is a public full-boarding County Public and Girls only school managed by a Board of Management.
Through the Harambee spirit the school has risen to where it is today with reliable piped water, four dormitories, a dining hall, a library, Home Science block, two laboratories and 19 staff houses. The enrolment now stands at 536. The staff strength comprises 27 teachers and 19 Support staff.
The school stakeholders are focusing on enhancing academic performance and improving the existing physical infrastructure.
